My proposal for Ceramics III included throwing vessel forms on the wheel, slip casting, and learning to raku. During the month of June, I was able to balance all three and am satisfied with the results overall.

Wrapping up Ceramics 2

I finished up the semester of Ceramics with a ton of cups, a slip cast sculpture, and 10 slab constructed pieces. The Sculpture Guild raised money with a Cup Drive at Caliente last weekend, and we concluded our Spring Pottery Sale yesterday.

I had a fantastic semester in Ceramics 2! This summer I will be taking Ceramics 3 and Printmaking 1 during June. During the month of July, I will be taking Photography 1 in London, England through USM's British Studies Program. I can hardly wait for my summer of art and adventure to begin!

Annual Student Art Show

Tonight was the opening reception of the Annual Student Art Show and lecture by guest speaker William Dunlap. Information on the artist William Dunlap and examples of his work can be found on the website: http://www.williamdunlap.com/. I had two pieced accepted into the show, "The Green Machine" and "Evolution of Bones."

Second Sculpture Critique

Today was the second sculpture critique for the Spring 2011 semester. My metal and wood sculpture was based on concept "Green Machine." My interpretation of this topic included rusty "green with envy" machinery parts reaching toward two shining pieces hanging from above. The base of my sculpture, a natural log, also echoed the "green" theme.

100 Cups and a "Green Machine"

For the past two weeks, I have spent the majority of my time in the Ceramics studio. Our project, to throw 100 cups in sets of 4 to 6, was due on February 23.

In Sculpture 2, I have been working on a metal sculpture inspired by the concept "Green Machine." So far, I have gathered small mechanical parts, cut scrap metal into appropriate shapes, and cleaned the edges of my pieces. I am currently deciding wether to continue with my original vision of a wall piece or continue my work with bases. Either way, soon my "Green Machine" will begin to take shape!

Today I discovered this amazing website! It is called "Art Project" and is powered by Google. It allows you to virtually walk through museums around the world and zoom in close enough to see brush strokes.

1st Critique of Sculpture 2

My first project of Sculpture 2 was based on the concept "social network." My portrayal of this concept focused primarily on the evolution of social networking and communication in our society.

Art and I go WAY back. Here I am holding a fake paint brush at Olan Mills and again after winning my first grade art contest. (Not too shabby, huh?)

On a more serious note, I am now a Sculpture student at the University of Southern Mississippi. Here are a few examples of my past projects as a Ceramics 1 and Sculpture 1 student.

Throughout this semester, I will be updating this blog to document my progress as a Sculpture 2 and Ceramics 2 student.
